TRAFFIC ZONE : SEAN SMUDA:  UNIVERSAL CAPITAL

December 9, 2016 @ 9:00 am - January 20, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

December 9, 2016  – January 20, 2017
Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and by appointment

Traffic Zone Gallery presents Sean Smuda: Universal Capital, a multilayered glossary of economic and social transformations. Linking #BLM, austerity governance and the Commodity Fetish to their colonialist roots, the work challenges the authority of historical cartography and contemporary statistics. Its appropriations, collage and performances reconfigure territories, symbology and propaganda. Universal Capital puts the value of art itself in question as prints are employed in protest zones, galleries and other seats of power.

Sean Smuda is an artist, curator, photographer and writer living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He works in a variety of mediums including collage, video, and performance. Recent projects have taken place in Iraq, on Wall Street, and at the Minnesota State Capitol. His work is in the permanent collection of the Walker Art Center.
