She translates the vibrancy and complexity of reflected images using the sensual medium of oil stick and the gestural engagement of drawing. These works become expressions that hover between recognition and mystery. The artist plays on the double meaning of reflection\, attentive to the sometimes ambiguous images projected onto the water (is this real or mirrored\, is this what I see?) while engaging in meditations on the natural cycles of life and the intertwined journeys of the human and natural world. \n  \nArtist’s Biography \nJoyce Lyon has used drawing and digital imagery / artist’s books to address issues of identity\, ecology and ageing from a personal and female perspective. Recent exhibitions include Crosby Farm Park (Groveland Gallery\, Minneapolis)\, Passing Radiance and Some Pages for a Book of Hours (Form+Content Gallery) and Shifting Perspectives: Dialogue in Place with Andrea Thoma (University of Leeds\, England). In support of her work she has received grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, the Jerome Foundation and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Her work is in many public and private collections\, including the Minnesota Historical Society; the Georgetown University Law Library\, Washington\, D.C.; the Florida Holocaust Museum / Tampa; the Federal Reserve Bank / Minneapolis; and the Weisman Art Museum\, Minneapolis. She was a founding member of the feminist collective\, WARM: Women’s Art Registry of Minnesota\, and has shown her work regularly at Groveland and Form+Content Galleries. Joyce is Associate Professor of Art emerita at the University of Minnesota. \nPress Images \nFor high resolution images\, please contact lyonx001@umn.edu \n\nJoyce Lyon\, Cooper’s Pond\, Study 2\, 2023\, oil stick on paper\, 23 x 31.5″ \n\nJoyce Lyon\, Cooper’s Pond 3\, 2023\, oil stick on paper\, 40″ x 51.5″ \nMission Statement\nForm+Content Gallery nurtures diverse artistic practice and thoughtful dialogue.
