SUMMARY:Student Final Presentations: What the HERC?
DESCRIPTION:Join University of Minnesota Professor Fernando Burga as his Masters of Urban Planning students present their final ideas for the HERC (Hennepin Energy Recovery Center) property\, commonly referred to as the garbage burner site. \nProfessor Burga is a North Loop resident who realized the future of the garbage burner site was a good learning opportunity for his students\, so he assigned them the task of re-imagining what the site could be when\, or if\, the garbage burner closes.  You can read about the students’ ideas from our March 2025 story. \nStudents are eager for feedback\, so bring your friends and enjoy free coffee and bagels! \nPresentations will take place in the FRGMNT Coffee/Nordic lobby. On-street parking is available\, or in the public parking garage at 728 N. 3rd St.

DESCRIPTION:Author Rudi Hargesheimer will present his book\, Superior Hiking Trail Story\, The Trek Continues\, beginning at 6pm. \nRudi Hargesheimer follows his passion for adventure\, history\, and the North Shore of Lake Superior in telling the tale of how the Superior Hiking Trail grew from nothing at all in 1986 to a 300-mile long nationally renowned trail today. His experience as a past Superior Hiking Trail Association board member and President gives him an inside look at the triumphs and frustrations inherent in building and maintaining a trail utilizing thousands of volunteers. Award-winning photos and hiker “sentiments from the heart” helped the 2020 Superior Hiking Trail Story sell over 2\,500 copies. An updated variant\, The Superior Hiking Trail Story\, The Trek Continues\, was published in 2023.
