SUMMARY:Service Saturday: Choose Your Project!
DESCRIPTION:The second Saturday of each month is Service Saturday. Volunteers can choose between litter pick-up and riverfront projects. \nLitter pick-up volunteers meet at 9:30 am at Corner Coffee (514 N. 3rd St.). Trash bags\, gloves and garbage grabbers are provided\, but you can bring your own gloves and grabbers if you have them. We’ll pick up trash along Washington Ave. and side streets for about an hour. \nRiverfront volunteers meet at 10 am at the playground (4th Ave. and West River Parkway) and focus on a specific project each month. In August\, volunteers will spruce up the riverfront by picking up litter\, clearing invasive species\, tending to the playground landscaping and other tasks as needed. The time commitment is 1.5 to 2 hours; tools\, gloves and water are provided.

MDC specializes in studying and designing development opportunities that lie in the “social\, technological\, environmental and economic disruptions of our time.” A list of past MDC projects can be found here.  \nThe workshops will be facilitated by urban planners\, architects\, and designers\, as well as students and support staff. Facilitators with this expertise have the ability to organize community input into a report for residents\, stakeholders and the developers of the site\, who have indicated their interest in MDC’s findings\, especially as it concerns the multi-use portion of their proposal. This will be the first series of workshops organized by the MDC over the following year.  \nThose wishing to attend and offer input do not need to attend all three workshops\, but are welcome to do so.
