SUMMARY:Illuminate the Lock: Returning the River (3 nights)
DESCRIPTION:Illuminate the Lock: Returning the River \nA night of poetry\, projection\, and music illuminates a future where both rivers and people are liberated\, where we celebrate wildness\, and where we practice reciprocal relationships between all bodies of water\, including one another’s. \nReturning the River tells the story of a daughter born into a time of walls whose life is intrinsically linked to the life of a paddlefish. Participants will take in visual projections on the water by Mike Hoyt\, a soundscape composed by Dameun Strange and a libretto by Molly Van Avery sung and spoken by performers above and below the lock chamber. Come listen and sing along. Hold water drawn up from below\, imbue it with blessings for descendants\, and then pour it back into the river to make its way towards liberation. \nPresented as part of Illuminate the Lock by Northern Lights.mn\, Mississippi Park Connection\, the National Park Service with support from St. Anthony Falls Heritage Board and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

SUMMARY:World Car Free Day
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 1996\, World Car-Free Day is celebrated in over 1\,500 cities around the world by encouraging sustainable commuting. Minneapolis joined the celebration in 2016 when nearly 1\,800 downtown commuters pledged to go “car-free” for a day\, and improve their commute. With a little transportation coaching\, commuters kept their cars at home and used transit\, bicycled\, carpooled\, walked\, or teleworked. \nMinneapolis celebrates World Car-Free Day 2018 on Friday\, September 21st. Move Minneapolis demonstrates just how easy\, inexpensive and fast car-free commuting can be. Commuters can enter to win a bicycle by sharing their commuting story.  Employers can vie for the “Best Car-Free Workplace” award. \nMORE INFORMATION

SUMMARY:Nutz Oar Boltz at Underground Music Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Nutz Oar Boltz is the real deal when it comes to blues.  Led by front man Timmer Blue Horn\, the group is a seasoned bevy of skilled blues musicians.\n\nTimmer is the main man\, a fixture in the blues world of the northlands – a renowned singer\, songwriter\, and harp player who has played in blues bands since the last ice age receded.  Many remember Timmer from some of his former bands called Out of the Blue (OOTB)\, which ranged from biting electric strings with horns to acoustic roots guitars.  Many of Timmer’s original songs draw from the heartaches of his own life\, and his blues covers pay tribute to the great blues stars of yesteryear. \nTimmer has pulled together Nutz Oar Boltz as his current project – talented musicians who have graced an endless parade of dusty stages:  Greg Smokefish Lee (lead blues guitar)\, Craig Fingers Litsey (keyboards)\, Chris Flask (sax and guitar)\, Rattlesnake Richard (bass)\, and Joe Ride (drums). It’s the real deal. \n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Traffic Zone : Adaptive Ratios

Beyond the startling detail\, Jonathan applies his digital process in ways that transcend some accepted limitations of conventional film and digital imaging techniques—such as unwrapping a 360° room interior or presenting a very large group portrait that is viewable as individual portraits. These immersive prints grant the viewer permission to intuitively explore the scenes with a freedom not usually experienced with conventionally sized and shaped photographs. This exhibition is an opportunity to view these non-traditional images printed at mural scale. Previously these extremely large photographs were viewable only on-line using specialized server software jointly developed by Google\, NASA\, and CMU: https://jonathangross.art/#/trafficzone/. \n\n \nJonathan Gross\, Wallpaper (11′ 5″ X 2′) \nArtist Biography \nJonathan Gross has exhibited both 2D and 3D works in a number of group exhibitions at the Tychman Shapiro Gallery from 2013 through the present\, two group shows at Minneapolis College of Art and Design\, and in the 2017 Minnesota Fair Fine Arts Exhibition. This is his first solo show—and only the third time he will have on display large-scale prints using the digital imaging process with which he has been working since 2010. Gross also designs theater projections. He was a tour guide at the Walker Art Center for five years. \nMission Statement \nTraffic Zone Center for Visual Art supports the work of mid-career professional artists with high-quality\, affordable studios and the engagement of audiences with gallery exhibitions\, open studio events\, art classes and workshops. \n
