Stop along the Stone Arch Bridge for spectacular views of the falls\, view historic buildings surrounding the riverfront and downtown Minneapolis\, and learn about the many people who have worked and lived in the area over the years. \nPlus\, view photographs showing how the area has changed through time\, and learn about Minneapolis riverfront renaissance over the last 40 years through historic preservation of Mill Ruins Park\, Mill City Museum\, Milwaukee Road Depot\, historic loft condominiums\, and new developments\, including the Guthrie Theater\, MacPhail Center for Music\, and riverfront housing. \nTour highlights include: \n\nthe Pillsbury A Mill\, a National Historic Landmark\nthe Washburn A Mill\, a National Historic Landmark\nthe Stone Arch Bridge\, a National Historic Engineering Landmark\nSt. Anthony Falls\, the only significant waterfall on the Mississippi River\n\nThis tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. DESCRIPTION:Countries across Latin America continue to gain global importance as they explore economic and trade opportunities\, invest in oil and gas production\, and seek out new international partnerships. Yet\, in recent years\, relations between the U.S. and Latin America have grown more turbulent\, especially in the wake of President Trump’s immigration policies and stance toward the “Troika of Tyranny” of Cuba\, Nicaragua\, and Venezuela.\n\nJoin a conversation with Inter-American Dialogue President Michael Shifter as he discusses the complex and often strained relations between the U.S. and Latin America including a look at immigration and trade policies\, the reversal of the Cuban thaw\, the Trump administration’s return to a more militant war on drugs\, and the implications of recent developments with Venezuela and China. The program will also include a Q&A session with Michael\, moderated by Adrean Scheid\, Senior Vice President\, International Relations at UnitedHealth Group. \nAbout the Speaker\nIn addition to his role as President of the Inter-American Dialogue\, Michael Shifter has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service since 1993\, where he teaches Latin American politics. Michael writes and talks widely on U.S.-Latin America relations and hemispheric affairs. His recent articles have appeared in major U.S. and Latin American publications and he has frequently appeared on CNN and BBC. He is co-editor\, along with Jorge Domínguez\, of Constructing Democratic Governance in Latin America\, published by Johns Hopkins University Press. They recently launched the Minneapolis Business Portal\, which provides entrepreneurs and business owners with valuable information and resources to plan\, launch\, and grow a business. \nIn addition\, the Small Business Team holds regular community office hours for consultations around the City: \n\nCentral Library\, 2nd Floor: every other Tuesday from 10am-1pm; the next one is May 8th\nNorth Regional Library: every 4th Thursday\, 1pm-3pm.\nHosmer Library: every 3rd Wednesday\, 3pm-6pm.\n\nIf you are looking to start or grow a small business\, come to a community office hour or contact the Small Business Team at 612-673-2499 or smallbusiness@minneapolismn.gov.
