SUMMARY:Modist Brewing Blood Drive
DESCRIPTION:Patients at local hospitals rely on Memorial Blood Centers to be there with the right blood type they need. But blood doesn’t last forever. Donated red cells last only 42 days and that’s why we need your help. \nPlease help replenish the supply. \nMake a date to donate today\, and consider making blood donation a regular part of your life. All blood types are needed—especially O negative (O-) and O positive (O+).

SUMMARY:Music at the Market
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday we are welcoming folk musicians Laura Bowman and Fred Gillen Jr.\, who are including us on their national summer tour! \nRead all about them! \n“Singer-songwriter Laura Bowman is embarking on her second national tour to connect to a wider community through her music.  A talented and charismatic folk artist\, Laura is also an engaging cover musician. While she can fluidly transition between genres dependent upon the atmosphere of her audience\, there is a consistent through-line in her performance of energy\, warmth\, and genuine connection.   (www.LauraBowmanMusic.com) \nNYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) grant recipient Fred Gillen Jr. has released nine full-length albums\, to great critical acclaim\, and has toured all over the US and Europe.  His songs have been featured on ABC’s “All My Children\,” NPR’s “Car Talk\,” CMJ’s New Music Marathon Sampler\, and in 2012 his version of Woody Guthrie’s “I Ain’t Got No Home” was featured on “Pete Remembers Woody\,” a collection of Pete Seeger’s spoken stories about Woody Guthrie. Like Guthrie\, his songs often reflect the struggles of the marginalized and forgotten\, shining a light on both the despair and hope in the human condition.  (www.FredGillenJr.com) \nBoth Fred and Laura are touring their most recent releases summer of 2017\, on which both collaborated\, Fred Gillen Jr.’s What She Said\, and Laura Bowman’s Shipwreck.  “

SUMMARY:A-Mill Artist Lofts Will Again be Open for the 2017 Art-A-Whirl
DESCRIPTION:KIM ESLINGER : Mill City Times : April 24\, 2017 \n\nA-Mill Artist Lofts will open their live/work spaces during Art-A-Whirl 2017. \nOver 70 artists\, including residents and their guests\, will display throughout the building with a special exhibition by Minneapolis College of Art and Design(MCAD) students in the gallery. In addition\, there will be over 20 performing artists live in 3 separate spaces throughout the 3 day event May 19-21. \nPatrons are encouraged to explore the open lofts\, gallery spaces\, dance studio\, performance hall and more using A-Mill’s “Come Get Lost In Creative Space” interactive guide. Food and drink will be for sale by Eli’s Food and Cocktail on Friday May 19 and Saturday May 20. A special creative children’s workshop will be hosted from 12-3pm on Sunday May 21 in the performance hall. \nAbout the A-Mill building\nCharles Alfred Pillsbury was known as a visionary leader in his industry\, constantly rethinking and reinventing processes to become one of the foremost businessmen of his age. One of his great innovations: the idea that an industrial building should be architecturally pleasing. \nDesigned by prominent Minneapolis architect LeRoy S. Buffington\, the Pillsbury A-Mill\, located at 315 Main Street SE Minneapolis\, is a masterpiece of industrial design that served as the largest flour mill in the world for 40 years. It is one of only three Minneapolis structures designated as a National Historic Landmark (one of only 26 in Minnesota). In fact\, the Mississippi River was diverted through the building to provide power during its flour milling days\, and water continues to flow underfoot today.
