SUMMARY:PRECINCT CAUCUSES
DESCRIPTION:Precinct caucuses will be held February 25\, 2020\, one week before the Presidential Nomination Primary. A Caucus Finder will be available in early February. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNever been to a caucus? Not sure how it works? Learn more about the process below! \n\n\n\nWe encourage Minnesotans to show support for their preferred candidates by participating in the candidate endorsement process that leads up to the state party conventions. \nIt all begins on Tuesday\, February 25\, 2020 with the precinct caucuses. Going to a caucus is a great way to show support for a candidate\, raise an issue that’s important to you\, influence who the party will endorse for many offices\, and meet people in your community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaucus basics\nWHEN AND WHERE WILL 2020 PRECINCT CAUCUSES BE HELD?\nThe 2020 precinct caucuses will be held on Tuesday\, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at locations set by the parties. \nWHAT IS A PRECINCT CAUCUS?\nPrecinct caucuses are meetings run by Minnesota’s political parties. They are the first in a series of meetings where parties may endorse candidates\, select delegates\, and set goals and values (called party platforms). \nWHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN A CAUCUS?\nTo participate\, you must be eligible to vote in the November 2020 general election and live in the precinct. You also must generally agree with the principles of the political party hosting the caucus. \nWHAT HAPPENS AT THE CAUCUS?\nEach political party runs their caucus meetings a little differently. Check with your political party if you have specific questions. Generally\, there are three main activities at a caucus: \n\nChoose volunteers who will organize political activities in the precinct. This could include maintaining contact lists\, holding political meetings\, and helping with campaign efforts.\nDiscuss issues and ideas for the party to support. You can present an issue or idea for the party to support\, called a resolution. If you convince other attendees to support your resolution\, it will be taken to the next political convention. Eventually\, your resolution could become part of the official party platform.\nChoose delegates who will endorse candidates at future conventions. At future conventions\, party delegates will endorse state and federal candidates\, including for Governor. Political parties have different ways of choosing delegates at the precinct level caucus—contact your party for more information.\n\nFEEDBACK ABOUT CAUCUSES\nIf you have questions\, concerns or a complaint about your precinct caucus\, please contact the political party holding the caucus meeting. Unlike elections\, which are run by local and state government election officials\, precinct caucuses are run by political parties. Everything from site location to how the caucus is conducted is the responsibility of the party. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdditional information on precinct caucuses\nRIGHT TO TIME OFF WORK TO ATTEND CAUCUSES\nYou have the right to take time off work to be at a precinct caucus or political party convention (if you’re a delegate or alternate). You must give your employer ten days’ written notice (See 202A.19\, subd.2 and 202A.135). \nACCESSIBILITY AT CAUCUSES\nMajor political parties must attempt to provide you an interpreter by request\, if you are deaf\, deafblind\, or hard-of-hearing. If you are visually impaired\, you also have the right to get written caucus materials ahead of time\, by request (see 202A.155). \nRESTRICTIONS ON PUBLIC MEETINGS DURING CAUCUSES\nSo that all voters can attend the caucus\, some groups cannot hold meetings after 6 p.m. on caucus night: \n\nNo special taxing district governing body\, school board\, county board of commissioners\, township board\, or city council can hold a meeting after 6:00 p.m.\nNo public elementary or secondary school may hold a school sponsored event after 6:00 p.m.\nNo state agency\, board\, commission\, department\, or committee can conduct a public meeting after 6:00 p.m.\nThe University of Minnesota may not schedule an event which will take place after 6:00 p.m unless permission to do so has been received from the Board of Regents.\nNo Minnesota state college or university may schedule an event which will take place after 6:00 p.m. unless permission to do so has been received from the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.\n\nFor more details\, see 202A.19. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCaucus Results\n2018 GUBERNATORIAL PREFERENCE BALLOT RESULTS\nThe 2018 precinct caucuses were held on February 6\, 2018. Caucus results for the gubernatorial preference ballot were provided to the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State by political parties. They are all contained in the following spreadsheet: \n\n2018 gubernatorial preference poll results\n\n2016 PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE BALLOT RESULTS\nThe 2016 precinct caucuses were held on March 1\, 2016. Caucus results for the presidential preference ballot were provided to the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State by political parties. \n\nRepublican and Democratic-Farmer-Labor results\nLibertarian Party of Minnesota results\nGreen Party of Minnesota results\nFor other minor party results\, contact the parties directly

SUMMARY:Art at 801 Gallery: Eric Mueller\, Dan Dennehy and Pocket Toscani
DESCRIPTION:The 801 Washington Lofts Art at 801 Gallery is pleased to present an Art Opening for local artists Eric Mueller\, Dan Denny and Pocket Toscani on Saturday\, February 29th from 6-9 pm at 801 Washington Lofts located in the North Loop. Free and open to the public\, the 801 Gallery provides complimentary wine and appetizers for all guests. All art is for sale and the artists keep 100% of the profits. The Art at 801 Gallery has been hosting three Art Openings a year since the early 2000s\, always curated by the “Cork Car Lady\,” “Jan Elftmann. \nAbout the Artists\nEric Mueller uses photography as a way of making sense of the world. His work seeks to capture and organize time into understandable moments so he can analyze and comprehend it. Through this process of photographing the world\, he gets a clearer idea of who he is. For more on Eric\, please visit: EricMuellerphotography.com \nDan Dennehy spends more and more time observing and questioning our complex and conflicting relationship to the natural world. Inspired by the long tradition of artistic renderings of botanical forms\, this series of photographs explores the digital abstraction of nature. For more on Dan\, please visit: DanjDen.com \nPocket Toscani tries to let their subconscious bubble up in the form of a color field. Then they respond in real time. They view their paintings as a series of call and response. Subconscious; conscious; subconscious…One of their main objectives is to surprise them self\, which is difficult because they have insider information. SUMMARY:Global Conversations MINNEAPOLIS: Women Warriors
DESCRIPTION:From Vikings and African queens to cross-dressing military doctors and World War II Russian fighter pilots\, there are incredible stories of women for whom battle was not a metaphor. The woman warrior has been cast as an anomaly — Joan of Arc\, not GI Jane. But women\, it turns out\, have always gone to war.\n\n\nJoin us for a conversation with author Pamela D. Toler as she discusses her new book\, “Women Warriors: An Unexpected History\,” and highlights the many women throughout world history who stepped out of their traditional female roles to take on other identities. The program will include a Q&A session with Pamela. \nFollowing the program\, Pamela will sign copies of her book “Women Warriors: An Unexpected History\,” which can be purchased through Amazon\, Barnes & Noble\, or IndieBound\, and will be available for purchase at the event through Magers & Quinn Booksellers. \nAbout the Speaker\nArmed with a Ph.D. in history\, a well-thumbed deck of library cards\, and a large bump of curiosity\, author\, speaker\, and historian\, Pamela D. Toler translates history for a popular audience. She goes beyond the familiar boundaries of American history to tell stories from other parts of the world as well as history from the other side of the battlefield\, the gender line\, or the color bar. Pamela is the author of eight books of popular history for children and adults. Her work has appeared in Aramco World\, Calliope\, History Channel Magazine\, MHQ: The Quarterly Journal of Military History and Time.com. \nGlobal Conversations in Minneapolis is presented in partnership with the Friends of the Minneapolis Central Library and Hennepin County Library – Minneapolis Central. \nGlobal Minnesota\nPhone:612.625.1662\nEmail:info@globalminnesota.org\nWebsite:globalminnesota.org
