SUMMARY:Exhibition by Jodi Reeb at Traffic Zone
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: July 7 – August 14\, 2020 \nVisitors can view artwork in the gallery during our hours of 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.\, Monday – Friday as well as by appointment by calling Jodi at 612/247-1244. The artwork will also be on view at trafficzoneart.com \nPublic Reception \nFree and open to the public \nHand sanitizer will be available for visitors. We ask that all who enter the gallery wear masks and do their best to keep a distance of 6 feet from fellow visitors. \nSales \nArtwork can be purchased online at www.jodireeb.com or contacting Jodi at jodi@jodireeb.com. Installation\, curbside pickup or delivery is available. \nArtist Statement \nI am a painter and printmaker venturing into the realm of sculpture as a way to create a narrative of physically experiencing the work. I am painting organic shapes that are elevated off the wall moving in groupings such as circles\, seeds and biomorphic forms that oscillate between painting and sculpture. I’m painting with encaustic (beeswax and damar resin) on acrylic panels and primed aluminum as well as incorporating metal leafing\, rust and copper patina. My goal in this new series of work is for a pushing-pulling\, folding-opening and evolving\, its parts beginning to take form into something new\, connected yet still raw. Combinations are discovered\, explored\, proposed\, rejected and accepted as I combine individual shapes to create the whole. Through this approach\, I discover relationships between the natural elements of a place creating rhythms\, patterns and forms that are nature-based as well as abstract. Process and repetition are also an important part of my work and is a constant subtext throughout. The designing and making of the work becomes something of a meditation\, a common theme throughout my paintings and installation works in part evidenced by simplicity of line and negative space. \nArtist Biography \nMy artwork has been shown nationally receiving numerous awards and is in many private and corporate collections. I was the recipient of the Artist’s Initiative Grant funded by Minnesota State Arts Board in 2018.  I received a BFA degree from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design\, MCAD\, where I instructed printmaking for over 9 years.  I am a CORE instructor for R&F Handmade Paints teaching monthly workshops in my studio as well as nationally. I also offer workshops as a GOLDEN Acrylic Arts Educator\, Ampersand Arts Ambassador and Silverbrush Educator. I create my mixed-media paintings and sculptures in my studio at Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art where I have been a co-op member for 15 years. \nMission Statement \nTraffic Zone Center for Visual Art supports the work of mid-career professional artists with high-quality\, affordable studios and the engagement of audiences with gallery exhibitions\, open studio events\, art classes and workshops.

SUMMARY:North Loop Neighborhood Service Saturday
DESCRIPTION:Several Ways To Help Your Community This Weekend\nJuly 6\, 2020\nInspired by the outpouring of community support from our neighbors earlier this year after the killing of George Floyd and the unrest that followed\, the North Loop Neighborhood Association is working to keep that giving spirit going\, by launching Service Saturdays. We’re organizing several different volunteer events on the same day\, to let you choose how you’d like to help. \nOn our first Service Saturday\, July 11th\, here are the options: \n9:00-10:00 Litter Pickup–Meet outside Corner Coffee (514 N 3rd St) and we’ll provide bags and gloves as you help keep our streets clean. \n10:00-noon Park Clearing #1–Meet at the North Loop Playground (4th Av & West River Road) and we’ll provide tools and gloves as you help continue the work of clearing out the invasive vines and overgrowth\, and open up our river views. \n10:00-3:00 Blood Drive—Memorial Blood Centers will have their bloodmobile parked at Number 12 Cider (614 N 5th St) for much-needed blood donations. You may schedule your donation in advance. Any questions\, contact Brian from Memorial Blood Centers at 651-332-7168 or email: bgoogins@mbc.org \n1:00-3:00 Donation Drive–Near the playground at James I. Rice Park (4th Av & West River Parkway) will be collecting donations to support the efforts of YouthLink\, a North Loop outreach agency helping young people experiencing homelessness. Among the items needed: non-perishable foods\, new t-shirts\, socks and underwear in men’s and women’s sizes\, gift cards\, personal hygiene products\, cleaning supplies and sunscreen. For ideas\, they’ve posted an Amazon wish list. \n1:00-3:00 Park Clearing #2–Meet at West River Parkway and Plymouth Avenue where tools and gloves will be provided as we focus on clearing out another section of the riverbank of invasive vines and overgrowth. \nAt each of these sites\, we will also have voter registration tables. “Since COVID hit in March\, voter registration is down 86%\,” said Bri Sharkey-Smith\, NLNA board member. “2020 is a pretty major year\, and Minnesota has a lot of people to vote for: every single seat of our legislature is up for election\, along with all our members of Congress\, a Senate seat\, and the Presidency. With so many opportunities to elect a representational government\, I wanted to make sure we were doing our part to make sure everyone who can participate in our democracy gets to.” \nThe North Loop Neighborhood Association hopes to have one of these Service Saturdays each month. “Our vision is to make Service Saturdays social\, inspiring\, rewarding\, and community-oriented\,” said Jenn Brewington\, NLNA board member. “My hope for participants is to recognize their own role as members of the community\, understand the value and impact of service\, demonstrate knowledge of community issues\, needs\, resources etc.” \nBy Mike Binkley\, North Loop Neighborhood Association \n

SUMMARY:Comments sought on new proposed change to the City Charter - Online Hearing
DESCRIPTION:The Minneapolis Charter Commission has proposed another possible change to the City Charter\, our City’s constitution\, and will seek public input on this proposal. \nThis new proposal removes minimum funding requirements for the Police Department without eliminating Police as a required department. \n\nRead the second proposed Charter amendment.\n\nThe public hearing for this proposed Charter amendment is set for: \n\nMonday\, July 27 at 5 p.m. online.\n\nThis is the second of two proposed amendments.
