SUMMARY:September Service Saturday: Please Join In!
DESCRIPTION:Service Saturdays take place from spring through fall in the North Loop. Service Saturdays include picking up trash from around the neighborhood\, working to enhance our beautiful park and playground along the river\, as well as other special activities each month. \nWe are so fortunate to have a committed crew of volunteers to help us maintain the beauty and cleanliness of our neighborhood! \nService Saturdays are held on the second Saturday of each month\, from April through November (or when the snow flies). \nThe day starts with gathering at 9:30am at Corner Coffee at 514 N 3rd Street\, where volunteers are provided with bags and gloves\, and spend an hour or so picking up trash around the neighborhood. This makes a huge difference as we all work to keeping the North Loop a clean\, litter-free zone! \nStarting at 10am\, another volunteer group gathers at James Rice Park to begin their efforts of the day to continue working to beautify the park and playground area\, continuing to remove invasive plants\, planting trees\, shrubs and perennial plants\, and much more. This Saturday we have 150 trees to plant (with refreshments after)\, plus a school donations drive for Banaadir Elementarty School. \nIn addition\, special neighborhood activities and events are secheduled for Service Saturdays throughout the season. \nHere’s the schedule for this coming Saturday: \n\nTrash Pick-up – Corner Coffee 9:30am\nPlant Trees – Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) supported event at James Rice Park North Riverbank – 10am\nBack-to-School Supplies Donation Drive (James Rice Park 9-noon Drop-off)\n\n \nFor our Service Saturday this coming Saturday\, our volunteers (including YOU\, hopefully!) will not only be doing the 9:30am litter pickup starting at Corner Coffee with bags and gloves provided\, and the big tree-planting effort along the river. \nWe’re also collecting donations of school supplies for Banaadir Elementary School in Northeast Minneapolis. From 9 to noon\, there will be a collection station near the playground in James Rice Park. Below is a list of supplies needed: \n1 subject 70 count notebooks\nPencils\n3 ring zipper Binders. OR\n3 inch 3 ring binders\nPost-its: 3×3\, 1 1/2 x 2\, 8×6\n3 hole punch Pencil pouches\nKleenex\nMagic eraser sponges\nHighlighters\nPencil eraser caps\n3 hole punch pocket dividers\nGlue sticks\nCheap ear buds to plug\ninto Chromebook

SUMMARY:Form + Content Presents: Ellie Kingsbury "Some Body"
DESCRIPTION:Ellie Kingsbury\, “Coco Dupree”\, mixed media\, 23”w x 17”h x 3”d\, 2023 \nEllie Kingsbury has long studied cultural expectations of the body\, largely through photographic images of “ordinary” people.  She has started a new chapter of this work by photographing burlesque performers.  Removed from the stage\, set onto plain black backgrounds\, and printed on large panels of silk\, these bodies undulate\, ripple\, and transform\, summoning thoughts of spirit over skin.  She furthers the effect by utilizing physical dimension as well as the dimension of time and space. \nWhat do we share with these sequined\, glamorous performers?  Do we equate the burlesque community as just bodies on a stage\, or do we contemplate the person behind the costume?  Do we all put ourselves on stage from time to time?  Do burlesque performers feel limited by the same cultural expectations that we live with?  When we watch burlesque do we understand a difference between sexualizing a body and celebrating sensuality? \nWorking with these questions\, the artist reception will feature everyday (non-burlesque) performers who will interact with the silks\, and invite the audience to do the same. \nPublic Reception: Saturday\, September 23\, 6:00 – 8:30 pm \nInterpretive performance will start around 6:45\, after which the audience will be invited to interact with the work. \n“Some Body” will also be included in Twin Cities Art Week\nSeptember 27 – October 1.  Visit www.tcartweek.org for more info. \nGallery hours: Thursday\, Friday\, Saturday\, 12:00 noon – 6:00 pm and by appointment. \nAll events are free and open to the public. \nForm+Content Gallery\nWhitney Square Building\, 210 North Second Street\, Suite 104\, Minneapolis\, MN 55401\nOne block north of Washington Avenue North and two blocks west of East Hennepin Avenue.\nParking is available on the street (metered) and in neighborhood parking ramps. SUMMARY:Traffic Zone Reception: Jodi Reeb
DESCRIPTION:A Different View \nAn exhibition of mixed-media paintings by Jodi Reeb. \nJodi Reeb\, Solitude\, Mixed media\, 12 x 12 in. \nSeptember 18 – October 20\, 2023 \nGallery Hours: Monday – Friday\, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm \nFree and open to the public. \n  \nPublic Reception \nSaturday\, October 14\, 2023\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm (revised date) \nLight refreshments will be served. \nFree and open to the public. \nhttps://www.trafficzoneart.com/ \ntrafficzoneart@gmail.com \n \nJodi Reeb\, At Dawn\, Mixed media\, 8 x 10 in. \nDescription \nTraffic Zone Gallery presents A Different View\, an exhibition of mixed-media paintings using photographs of pollinator-friendly plants taken at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum “from the bee’s perspective”. These paintings are created by embedding photographs printed on tissue paper in the wax as collage. Artist Jodi Reeb developed this new body of artwork after researching how to support the pollinator/bee species in Minnesota. \nReeb has been painting with encaustic paint (molten beeswax\, pigment and resin) for over 15 years. These mixed-media works have the luminosity of beeswax while maintaining the graphic nature of photography. It was natural for Reeb to partner with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum as a sanctuary for bees with several hives\, acres of diverse pollinator habitat and an outreach education program partnered with the University of Minnesota. \nTo expand on this series\, the artist has also included landscape images that are a superimposition of double exposures taken on film to create a single image and printed on tissue paper.  These photos were taken at the Prairie Wetlands Center near Fergus Falls\, Minnesota\, during a Hinge Arts Residency awarded through Springboard for the Arts. \nArtist Statement \nWorking with beeswax as my primary painting medium has me very concerned about the recent decline of the pollinator population. Modern encaustic is primarily composed of 85% natural wax\, produced by honeybees. There are over 400 species of native bees in Minnesota and pollinators are declining at alarming rates due to lack of habitat and pesticide use. This installation of paintings is a way to celebrate our region’s unique pollinator diversity and our individual and collective responsibility to ensure that future generations get to experience fields of wildflowers abuzz with pollinators. \n \nJodi Reeb\, Transcendence\, Mixed media \nArtist Biography \nJodi Reeb lives in Minneapolis\, Minnesota creating art for over 27 years as a full-time artist.  She is the recipient of the 2021 Artist’s Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. In 2021\, she was chosen for the Hinge Arts Residency program through Springboard for the Arts in Minnesota. Her work has been shown nationally\, receiving numerous awards and is in many private and corporate collections nationally.  She received a Bachelor’s degree from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design where she instructed printmaking in the Continuing Studies program for over 9 years.  Reeb creates her mixed-media paintings and sculptures in the co-op studio at the Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art.  She is a Golden Paint Artist Educator as well as an R & F Paint Core Artist teaching monthly workshops in acrylic and encaustic paint. \n  \nMission Statement \nTraffic Zone Gallery is operated by Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art. TZCVA supports the work of mid-career professional artists with high-quality\, affordable studios and the engagement of audiences with gallery exhibitions\, open studio events\, art classes and workshops. \n—\n \nTraffic Zone Gallery\nTraffic Zone Center for Visual Art\n250 3rd Avenue North\, Minneapolis\, MN 55401\nhttps://www.trafficzoneart.com\ntrafficzoneart@gmail.com
