Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Collecting Cold Weather Items for Those in Need

January 18, 2022 (Minneapolis) – The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is collecting donations of new or gently used cold weather items such as coats, hats, mittens, boots, scarves, blankets, and hand warmers for distribution to homeless and unsheltered individuals in Hennepin County. Donated items will be distributed to unsheltered individuals through various means, including distributions by the HCSO Community Outreach team and to residents visiting the Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401.

Cold weather items may also be distributed to individuals leaving jail or court hearings without adequate clothing, or anyone in else in need that HCSO employees encounter in the course of their business.

This donation drive is a continuation of a program that was developed in late January 2019, when record-breaking low temperatures presented life-threatening challenges to those without adequate shelter.

Donations of new or gently used cold weather items may be donated at drop boxes placed at the locations below. HCSO requests that individuals do not donate used items that require extensive cleaning or repair.

HCSO is accepting donations from today through February 28. The date of the donation drive may be adjusted based on weather and need. The Sheriff’s Administration can also accept donated items by mail.
