SUMMARY:Lisa Nankivil: Paintings and New Media Prints (Traffic Zone)
DESCRIPTION:                                                     Lisa Nankivil\, Rubicon\, 2015\, 48 x 54 in.\, oil on canvas \nOpening Reception (open to the public)\nExhibit showing from September 9 – October 21\nMonday – Friday\, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and by appointment \nTraffic Zone Gallery presents Lisa Nankivil: Paintings and New Media Prints\, a radiant selection of traditionally created oil paintings\, and archival pigment prints composed on an iPad. Nankivil’s abstract paintings feature richly hued bands of color and luminous intervals of black and white. The paintings\, with their ambiguous spaces and surface texture\, engage the viewer from a distance. The smaller\, intricate digital prints invite closer contemplation of their architecture. Riffing on her signature stripes as well as paint as a subject\, Nankivil documents and uploads images of her painted marks\, layering them with original photography\, and drawing. On how it feels to work digitally after so many years in front of a 12 ft. wall easel\, Nankivil laughingly admits\, “In a perfect world the iPad would be at least eight feet wide.” \nArtist Biography \nA native of Minnesota and graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design\, contemporary artist Lisa Nankivil is widely recognized for her distinctive linear abstractions. She exhibits her paintings and original prints nationally and internationally\, most recently in Metes and Bounds\, McCormick Gallery\, Chicago; 2016 Delta National Small Print Exhibition\, Bradbury Art Museum\, Arkansas; Art on the Plains XII\, Plains Art Museum\, Fargo ND.; and New Hampshire Institute of Art’s Biennial 2015\, New Hampshire Institute of Art.
