SUMMARY:Public Hearing: Funding our Trees
DESCRIPTION:Do you care about our trees in Minneapolis? We need your help in contacting your elected Park Board Commissioners!  \nIn the current Superintendent’s proposed budget\, tree planting and stump grinding are proposed to be cut by more than $140\,000\, which will mean 563 fewer trees planted in 2019. On the bright side\, the proposed budget funds a new Forestry outreach coordinator position dedicated to working with Minneapolis kids and communities to care for our trees. DESCRIPTION:Image: An aerial rending of Water Works in the fall \nMPRB Commissioners will consider revised Water Works “Mezzanine Phase” concept after 6:30 pm public hearing\nThe Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is holding a public hearing on the proposed concept design of the Water Works Mezzanine Phase on Wednesday\, June 7\, 2017\, 6:30 pm at MPRB Headquarters\, 2117 West River Road. \nWater Works is a transformative park development project overlooking St. Anthony Falls and the Stone Arch Bridge that will bring significant new historic\, cultural\, and recreational amenities to one of the most iconic locations in Minneapolis. \nThe updated concept embeds a new park pavilion into the historic ruins of the Bassett and Columbia mills\, as well as expands naturalized gathering spaces with direct access to public amenities. \nDuring the hearing\, interested members of the public have a chance to weigh in on the evolution of the concept design before the Board of Commissioners. After the hearing is closed\, commissioners will consider its approval. \nView Concept DesignIf approved\, limited archaeology work will begin in 2017\, with the majority of construction starting in 2018. DESCRIPTION:15-member committee will review development team Request for Qualifications\nThe first Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting for the development of ‘Parcel D’ of the Scherer site on the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront will take place tomorrow night\, Thursday\, Nov. 10\, 7-8:30 pm at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) headquarters\, 2117 West River Road. \nAny interested members of the public are encouraged to attend any CAC meeting. At the meeting tomorrow\, CAC members will introduce themselves and review a Request for Qualifications from development teams that will be opened this winter. \nThe Scherer site contains 11 acres of riverfront land that will be developed with both parkland and commercial elements to help offset operating costs. The former lumberyard\, located just north of the Plymouth Avenue Bridge along the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront\, was purchased by the MPRB in 2010. Parcel D occupies the northeast corner of the site. \nScherer Bros Site Concept Plan \nThe CAC will help select a private development team for Parcel D.
