Creating the North Loop’s “Backyard and Front Porch”
As construction on The Nordic tower neared completion last summer, United Properties VP Gordy Stofer said the company had a mission to make the Nordic’s outdoor plaza “the backyard and front porch of the North Loop.” And that meant creating an attractive gathering place year-round.
The Freehouse hosted an Oktoberfest celebration on the plaza in the fall, complete with a German polka band, beer and bratwursts. The North Loop Neighborhood Association hosted our first-ever Trick or Treat party on the plaza on Halloween night.
And over the weekend, The Freehouse brought in an ice bar, ice sculptures, a DJ, lots of colorful lights and three curling courts for the new SocialICE winter festival.
Visitors were allowed to use the curling courts for free during SocialICE. Starting Thursday, February 6th, the Freehouse will be taking reservations for the courts. They’ll also offer the opportunity for curling leagues, starting at the end of February through the end of March.
United Properties has been working with the public space activation firm The Musicant Group on several smaller promotional events on the plaza.
