Stay in the Loop

Barcelona Wine Bar Begins Hiring, Plans August Opening

As workers continue their transformation of an old warehouse into North Loop’s latest upscale drinking and dining option, Barcelona Wine Bar, a Hiring poster now hangs in the window at 508 Washington Avenue North.

“We’re planning to open the second week of August,” said general manager Bruce Payne. “We’re extremely excited.”

Barcelona has locations in eight other states, serving tapas, salads and large plates to go with its craft cocktails and “one of the largest Spanish wine programs in the United States.”

Its first Minnesota location will have seating for 168–all inside. You can see a sample dinner and drink menu here.

“Once you get to an area like the North Loop with the apartments and the community that’s already invested there, it’s just the perfect spot, perfect marriage,” Payne said. “We’re going to bring a lot of class to the experience and create a lot of excellent memories.”

The new location will be next door to the popular Backstory coffee shop in the Duffey Lofts project, which opened in 2022.

A single neon sign will let passersby know that Barcelona Wine Bar is there. Payne says it will be open seven days a week.
