Stay in the Loop

Barks & Rec Putting Finishes Touches On Much Bigger Facility

Twin Cities dogs who’ve been spending their days at Barks & Rec in the North Loop are about to have a lot more room to romp around in.

The owners are just days away from opening a new facility on Lyndale Avenue right next to the Farmers Market that’s about five times the size of the one they’re leaving behind.

“It’s completely different, it’s 100% better,” said owner Leigh Trammel. “We had zero outdoor space at the old location. Here, we have outdoor play areas where the dogs can soak up the sun and just enjoy the weather when it’s nice.”

Barks & Rec will offer boarding seven days a week, along with daycare, grooming and a small retail area.

“We will have a quiet room,” Trammel said. “That’s something I really wanted to have because there’s always a dog or two that just needs to escape the chaos.”

It’s just the latest dog-centric facility to open in the Farmers Market area. Dog Wellness Club also provides daycare & boarding services nearby, while Unleashed Hounds & Hops offers play areas for dogs and food and drinks for their owners.

Barks & Rec is planning a grand opening on Sunday, May 18th, with its first official day of business on the 19th.
