Lovely’s Sewing & Arts Collective
Mission: To shift and heal the mindset of our youth through unity and community bridge-building, one sewing stitch at a tim
At LSAC we teach many forms of art to youth – sewing, yoga, dance, public speaking, entrepreneurship, poetry and so many life skills. We use these skills as tools to teach patience, focus, leadership, financial literacy and accountability of actions at home, school and everywhere else.
Yoga is a meditational component used to help focus, ground, and heal past and current trauma. Yoga is used as a tool to teach youth how to deal with life circumstances in a safe and welcoming atmosphere.
Lovey’s Sewing & Arts Collective (LSAC) was established in June of 2009. The Founder, Keiona Cook, had a vision to bring back the abandoned essential skill of sewing and other educational life tools she wished she was taught as a child.
Keiona learned that in the late 1980’s home economics was taken out of the public schools due to a lack of funding. After graduating North High School, Keiona decided to get her Bachelors degree in fine arts from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). With this formal training in Fashion Design, she came back to the Northside of Minneapolis to teach sewing. Keiona has over 18 years experience designing couture garments and over 15 years of experience teaching youth sewing and other tangible life skills.
Our goal of LSAC is to connect all communities through unity, using sewing as the foundation to control future narratives about how youth and people connect and view the Northside.
