On January 9, 1963, Center Opera made its debut at the Guthrie Theater. An avant-garde company and the offshoot of the Walker Art Center, Center Opera would come to be known as the Minnesota Opera. 60 years later, we celebrate that important evening and the collaboration that endures between these important arts organizations.
You’re invited to toast the new year with the leaders of the Guthrie Theater, MN Opera, and the Walker Art Center on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of opening night of Center Opera. The event will feature musical performances and a panel discussion to reflect on and celebrate the shared history of their organizations as cultural visionaries that make Minnesota an extraordinary incubator for the arts.
