Free Hair Services For Healthcare Workers, First Responders
Even though they’ve been struggling financially because of the pandemic, Urban Village SalonSpa is giving away free hair services at their North Loop location to healthcare workers, paramedics and first responders through the month of December.
“We just wanted to give back in some way,” said co-owner Andria Kroona, “and what resonated with us was the first responders and healthcare workers. A number of us have them in our families and they’ve been worked so hard.”
The free services include haircuts and coloring. “If they want a blowout, that’s fine too,” said Kroona. Recipients just need to book an appointment and bring credentials with them.
Urban Village is located near the Washington Avenue bridge, just down a slight hill by Dock Street Flats.
The four co-owners signed their lease to open the salon in March, just before the first COVID-19 shutdown happened. Since then, foot traffic from business people and residents has dropped, and they’ve been off to a slow start.
“It’s been really tough, actually,” said Kroona, “but that’s why we have the time and availability to offer these services. It’s our opportunity so we’re going to be positive. We’re hoping that once they come in they’ll really like it and maybe come back in January, February and March.”
