Hewing Adding Rooftop Ice Bar As Major Updates Begin

After nine years of award-winning hospitality at the corner of 3rd and Washington, operators of the Hewing Hotel are freshening things up with several new additions starting in January.

One of them, a rooftop ice bar on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, will make its debut January 15th and last as long as the cold weather does. It will include “rotating spirit partners and winter-forward food offerings,” according to a news release.

The other, more extensive changes involve remodeling the hotel’s guest rooms, event spaces and the ground floor restaurant, bar and lounge. The enclosed rooftop bar area will remain open throughout.

Here’s the tentative timetable provided by the hotel: Tullibee Restaurant as well as the Hewing bar and lounge will be closed January through mid-February.

Guest rooms will be closed for remodeling, one floor at a time, from January through March.

Event spaces will be closed January through March.

While the heart of Hewing remains unchanged since we first opened our doors nearly ten years ago, we’re excited to offer refreshed spaces for our hotel guests and Twin Cities patrons,” said hotel general manager Catherine Hall. “We’re excited to introduce thoughtful updates that honor our history while looking toward Hewing’s next chapter and we’re grateful that guests can continue to enjoy the rooftop bar and our new seasonal Ice Bar throughout the process.”

Hewing staff will post any updates to the remodeling schedule on the hotel’s website.

This building, which dates back to 1897, was originally a warehouse for agricultural equipment. You can learn more in our Historic North Loop section.
