Master Barber Opens New Shop, More Services Coming
In his 25th year as a barber–more than ten of them in downtown Minneapolis–Christopher Hernandez finally has a shop of his own, Razor King, on the third floor of the SoHo building at 718 North Washington.
“Razor King is definitely marketed to upscale clientele,” Hernandez said. “What sets me apart is my attention to detail, my ability to listen to people and understand what they’re really looking for.”
In the coming weeks, he intends to bring in stylists, massage therapists and other professionals to share the space.
“We’re gonna have basically three businesses in one,” he said. The MedSpa entails things like botox and different types of treatments for skin. For the spa services, we’ll have different types of massage, like sports massage, clinical massage, Swedish massage, relaxation, facials. And with salon services we’ll have coloring, wedding parties and so on.”
Hernandez is offering monthly and yearly grooming memberships which allow clients to pay one flat fee for unlimited haircuts, shaves, etc. And the chair he personally uses is more than a century old.
“I’ve always been a fan of those Koken barber chairs, just because of the design,” he said. “They’re made out of porcelain, cast iron and then they’re nickel-plated.”
He has a loyal group of local clients but he also hopes to draw more from outside the neighborhood, in part by offering valet parking, which they can book through the app.
Razor King is open Monday-Saturday, 8am-7pm.
