Stay in the Loop

New Japanese Fast-Casual Cafe Opening “Real Soon”

Sometime in the next week or two, Chef Yo Hasegawa will finally get to open his new North Loop restaurant, Cafe Yoto, in the historic Duffey building on Washington Avenue.

With sushi hand rolls, rice bowls, noodles and more, this new concept will bring a more affordable Japanese experience to the neighborhood. All the food dishes will be priced between $12 – $24.

“Everything is homemade,” Yo said, “from the Udon noodle to the broth. I’m really excited, especially to be in the North Loop right now.”

There will also be beer, wine and, of course, sake. Yo doesn’t have an exact opening date, because there’s still a bit of construction work to be done. But the equipment is in and the staff is being trained.

“It’s coming up soon, very soon,” he said.

Cafe Yoto will be at 548 Washington Avenue North, in a lower level space formerly occupied by Stalk & Spade. You can follow their Instagram account for updates on their opening.
