Introducing the 2019-2020 Resident Artists

Minnesota Opera is proud to announce our 2019-2020 Resident Artists!

New Resident Artists include mezzo-soprano Mia Athey, bass-baritone Andrew Gilstrap, and Frankie Charles (in the newly created role of Resident Artist Assistant Technical Director), who will join returning Resident Artists soprano Lisa Marie Rogali, soprano Danielle Beckvermit, tenor Christian Sanders, baritone Nicholas Davis, pianists Mary Box and Andrew Sun, and Assistant Director Adam da Ros for the 2019-2020 season.

Minnesota Opera’s Resident Artist Program is designed to bridge the gap between an artist’s academic education and professional career and offers a full season of employment for young professionals.

Come experience the work of these incredibly talented artists for yourself when our new season starts this fall.

Project Opera Presents: Belongings

Project Opera is excited to present Belongings at The Lab Theater from February 13-16, 2020. Belongings explores the stories of two groups of children across two time periods who are forced to flee their homes because of war.

Project Opera’s performers will step into the shoes of young people just like them – children and teenagers with the same aspirations and dreams, who were simply born into different circumstances.

The Magnitude of Minnesota’s Arts Audience

Twin Cities Public Television created a series of short videos illustrating the ways in which the creative community gives back to Minnesota’s economy, based on research done by CreativeMN and Minnesota Citizens for the Arts.

Minnesotans are great audiences: All in all, they are 20 percent more likely than people in other states to attend an arts event to be delighted, surprised, educated, and inspired. Minnesota nonprofits serve 23 million attendees participating in arts and culture events every year. That’s more than four occasions per year for every Minnesotan. Young people under the age of 18 attend more than six arts events every year, sparking imaginations, empowering new voices, and building better lives through creativity. Minnesotans attend more arts and cultural events than other Americans.
