Run Club Helps Build Leg Muscles–And Friend Circles
How do you make new friends when you move to a neighborhood like North Loop? Well, if you’re Andrew Kubitschek, a runner who moved here from Boston, you do the things you like to do and invite others to join in.

“I like working out and I figured I might as well start a running club,” he said, “just give someone who’s out of town or someone who wants to meet friends that opportunity to get a workout in and maybe make a new friend.”
And that’s how the North Loop Run Club was officially formed in 2024. The first picture they posted on Instagram (below) showed eight people getting ready to run in May of that year.

Now, they sometimes get as many as 70. Andrew is in the front right part of the picture below, in the black t-shirt.

“The group is comfortable enough for someone who’s new or is looking to try something new that they don’t have any hesitation to stop on by,” he said. “And it gives off that friendly environment. That’s what I care about most.”
They run a 3.45 mile loop, starting and ending at Cuzzy’s each Thursday night at 6:30 during the warmer months. They run along the river, cross the Stone Arch Bridge, then cross back over on the Hennepin Avenue Bridge.

The group is free to join, the run is self-paced, dog-friendly, and it ends with time to socialize at Cuzzy’s afterward.
“I always say at our announcements, ‘I’m here to run for the beer,'” Andrew said. “It’s all about the fun.”
