Stay in the Loop

Trail Will Be Closed Three Months For Light Rail-Related Work

Just as we were celebrating the ribbon-cutting and opening of a bike ramp giving new access to the Cedar Lake Trail, an Instagram follower notified us that the trail is actually about to close for much of the spring and summer through the heart of the North Loop.

Sure enough, orange signs are now up along the trail and there’s a notice on the Metropolitan Council’s website that the three-month closure will go all the way from Royalston Avenue near Target Field to Azine Alley–between the Federal Reserve’s parking lot and the back of Porzana/Flora Room.

It cited work related to the light rail expansion, including sewer utility work, trail reconstruction and the relocation of railroad tracks. “Unfortunately, the space required for the different work activities does not allow for the trail to remain open, even in a narrowed condition,” it said.

Bikers can still get to the riverfront from this neighborhood by taking Azine Alley behind Porzana and the 212 Lofts to get to West River Parkway, or via 4th Avenue North or 10th Avenue North.

And something to look forward to when this work is finally done, two more access points to the trail will have been created around the new North Loop Green.

If we get any updates from the Metropolitan Council, we will pass them along on the North Loop social media pages.
