Stay in the Loop

Volunteers Needed At Playground Saturday

After spending the past year bringing dramatic improvement to the woods and paths along the riverbank in James I. Rice Park, our volunteers along with Park and Recreation workers have now also turned their attention to the planting beds around the playground.

This Saturday, September 12th starting at 10AM, we’ll need volunteers to help spread the mulch that the Parks Department delivered to the park. It’s part of our Service Saturday for September. There’s no need to sign up in advance, just show up at the park and tools will be provided.

You may have noticed how overgrown the beds were, before crews led by our super-volunteer Cristy Blake started clearing them out. Besides looking ratty, the tall overgrowth could also block the sight-lines of parents, trying to keep an eye on their kids from the nearby picnic tables.

The North Loop Neighborhood Association will be replanting the beds, in partnership with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, with new plants coming in the spring. The NLNA will also be seeking volunteers to do occasional upkeep by “adopting” a bed. If you’re interested, please write to info@northloop.org  See you on Saturday!
