Zoom Recording of Data Center Developer Presentation

Citing Lack of Information, P+Z Takes No Action

For 20 years, as our neighborhood has evolved into the residential and entertainment district that it is today, the volunteers on the North Loop Neighborhood Association’s Planning + Zoning Committee have listened to hundreds of detailed, technical presentations for the transformation of historic buildings, construction of new buildings and plans for the retailers, coffee shops, bars and restaurants we enjoy today.

The committee was eager to hear details of the Land Use Application for transforming the former Star Tribune printing press building into a data center, and to have our questions about water, electricity, noise and more answered.

The representatives from Legacy Investing could not provide the detail the P+Z Committee is accustomed to receiving in order to make a decision to support, reject or apply conditions to a proposed development.

As a result, the P+Z Committee passed a motion of no action on the Conditional Use Permit [to convert the printing press building to a data center] due to the lack of information provided by Legacy Investing. In addition, the committee requests a one month delay to the City Planning Commission hearing so that NLNA P+Z committee members can gather needed information, answer community questions, and delay the NLNA P+Z committee vote until their next scheduled meeting in September.
