While we cannot get together in person during the COVID-19 pandemic, I am continuing periodic “virtual coffee” meetings for Ward 3 residents to drop in, ask questions, discuss issues in our community, and have a chat with our neighbors.
I’ve also held meetings on a specific topic, including this evening’s event:
with Michelle Rivero, Director, Minneapolis Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs
&
Colleen Beebe, Immigration Attorney and Immigration Program Manager at Volunteer Lawyers Network

Since he assumed office, President Biden signed several executive orders affecting federal immigration policy, including on topics such as the reunification of families separated at our nation’s southern border, committing to an efficient and humane asylum system, removing obstacles to obtaining immigration status in the United States, and supporting initiatives for immigrants to seek and obtain United States citizenship. All of these policy initiatives enter a time where our southern border is a topic of conversation across the political spectrum.
Michelle Rivero, Colleen Beebe, and I will discuss these topics as well as the way in which the City of Minneapolis supports our immigrant communities and what we can all do to change the paradigm of immigration in our community.
We’ll discuss these and other topics – bring your questions!
