New Wolves/Lynx Arena In North Loop? Speculation Returning
After the Timberwolves’ exciting run to the Western Conference finals, and a strong start to the Lynx season, the two teams are trying to sort out their messy ownership situation between long-time owner Glen Taylor and the two men who are attempting to acquire majority control, Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore.
Now, an offhand comment by Rodriguez to local sports reporter David Shama is fueling new speculation about the push for a new arena for the two teams–and the possibility it might be built on land adjacent to the Farmers Market, an area that’s been studied as a potential sports stadium site in the past.
“This team will never leave here. We’re going to build down the street,” Rodriguez is quoted as saying. (Read Shama’s report here).
The area he may be referring to is currently home to a collection of buildings used for light industrial, warehousing and offices, just beyond the Farmers Market.
Shama’s report was picked up and amplified by Sports Illustrated and the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal.
