Open House Saturday: New Transit Police Station
By Mike Binkley, North Loop Neighborhood Association
The addition to Metro Transit’s offices in the North Loop is almost complete and it includes a new police station which will host an open house on Saturday, July 20th.
Danielle Stulen of Metro Transit’s marketing department said, “The new Metro Transit Office & Police Facility is Metro Transit’s newest and most sustainable support facility. The facility has been designed to allow MTPD to expand to approximately 350 full time officers which will help serve both the METRO SWLRT Green Line Extension, METRO Orange Line and other future METRO BRT routes. The new building features six new investigative interview rooms that will allow for recorded statements from victims, witnesses and suspects. The building will also provide an on-site training room for future police academies with mat room and simulator training capabilities.”
At Saturday’s open house, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., they will have tours of the new facility as well as representatives from the upcoming South West Light Rail project, Bus Rapid Transit projects, and their Equity & Inclusion team.
Refreshments sold at the event will benefit their Black History Committee which hosts an annual celebration at the Heywood Garage.
