Stay in the Loop

After 28 Years, Bev’s Last Call Will Be March 25th

Long before the North Loop was a trendy destination for downtown dining and entertainment, Peter Kirihara saw the potential in what was still a rundown industrial and warehouse district in the early 1990s. He opened Moose & Sadie’s coffee shop in the Colonial Warehouse in 1991, Bev’s Wine Bar on 3rd Avenue North in 1995 and Jetset Bar on North 1st Street in 2001.

Now, though, the last surviving one of those three North Loop businesses is closing. Kirihara and business partner Paul Schula posted on Instagram this week: “After 28 years serving the North Loop and beyond, Bev’s will be closing.”

Instantly, fans started responding with broken-heart emojis. “OMG the rush of memories that just flooded into my head!!!,” wrote one. “So many dreamy summer nights spent on the Bevs Patio with people I adore,” wrote another.

KARE-11 personality Jana Shortal posted about having a blind date at Bev’s with the woman who would become her wife.

The former Moose & Sadie’s space is now home to Sweetgreen, while the former Jetset Bar is being incorporated into the new West Hotel project. No word yet on whether a new tenant is lined up for the Bev’s space.

Bev’s is open Wednesdays-Saturdays and will close its doors for good on March 25th.

In their Instagram post this week, Kirihara and Schula wrote, “We thank all of our customers and friends for your loyal patronage in what we truly believe has been one of the most special and beautiful spaces.”
