City of Minneapolis – North Loop Paving & Pedestrian Project update

PROJECT UPDATE

Public Works has developed a final recommended layout for both North Loop Pavingand North Loop Pedestrian Improvement projects. These will be brought to the City Council Transportation & Public Works Committee on March 27th for consideration for layout approval. Pending layout approval, both projects will undergo final engineering design in 2018, with construction scheduled for 2019.

North Loop Paving: Since the third project meeting in December, Public Works staff have been engaging with adjacent property owners at several key locations where there were remaining design considerations. The final recommended layout reflects the outcome of these meetings.

North Loop Pedestrian: Public Works staff met with several property owners in late 2017 to finalize several details on the preliminary layout. The final recommended layout is largely the same as was presented at the second project meeting last fall, though with additional curb extensions added at the 2nd St N at 8th Ave N intersection. Since January, the project has undergone 2 of 3 steps required for scope review at Metropolitan Council TAB/TAC. This process is required because several intersections were included in the original federal funding application that were later identified for reconstruction with the North Loop Paving project. The final step to this process, at Met Council TAB, is expected later this month.
