Doors Open Minneapolis

May 9 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Doors Open events are free public celebrations that invite people to explore the buildings, spaces, and stories that shape a city’s identity.  During Doors Open venues of architectural, cultural, civic, and social significance open their doors to the public—many offering behind-the-scenes access not typically available. From historic landmarks to cutting-edge workspaces, sacred spaces to industrial sites, these programs are designed to spark curiosity and deepen connection between people and place.

There are two North Loop venues in this year’s Doors Open:

The Federal Reserve Bank

Ever wonder what $4.6 million in cash looks like? Visit the most popular Doors Open venue to find out! While you’re here, have a seat on $1.7 million in shredded money, discover where the money in your wallet comes from and how it gets to you, uncover the security features on your bills, and more. Visitors must pass through a metal detector and have personal belongings X-rayed. Weapons are prohibited.

The North Loop Garage

The North Loop Garage is Metro Transit’s newest bus garage and opened in March of 2023. The 350,000-square-foot facility can store up to 200 buses and includes 24 maintenance bays. In the future, the garage will include electric bus charging equipment, powered in part by rooftop solar panels.

In addition to bus maintenance and storage, the garage has several features for employees, including a workout area, an outdoor patio, break rooms, covered parking, and a secure bike storage area. The garage also has several sustainable features, including a 40,000-gallon rainwater storage tank, a geothermal heating/cooling system, thermal wall paneling, and LED lighting.  Come enjoy a tour through the eyes of a bus operator and end with a bus ride around the garage!
