Notice of a Public Hearing: 730, 730 ½, and 800 1st Street North

ESG and Opus have submitted the following applications to allow for the retention of the existing Star Tribune printing plant building and parking area at 800 1st Street North:

  • Variance to reduce the building setback of the existing building
  • Variance to allow a private drive in the required yard.

The City Planning Commission will meet on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 4:30 p.m., in Room 317 City Hall, 350 S. 5th St., Minneapolis, MN.  Interested parties are invited to attend and be heard. Planning Department staff will issue a recommendation to the Planning Commission. After hearing from the public, the Planning Commission will make a determination based on required legal findings of fact. Please visitwww.minneapolismn.gov/meetings/planning for the agenda with staff reports (web page will be updated by the end of the day Wednesday prior to the meeting date).

In accordance with the Zoning Code, all property owners within 350 feet of the subject property are notified of this public hearing.  If you have questions about the project, please contact the City staff person listed below.  If you would like to submit comments, you can make them verbally at the meeting or submit them in writing to:

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING

ESG and Opus have submitted the following applications to allow for the construction of a new six-story, apartment building with approximately 225 residential units at 730, 730 ½, and 800 1st Street North in the Il/Light Industrial District, R6/Multiple Family District, and C3A/Community Activity Center and the following Overlay Districts: DH/Downtown Height Overlay District, DP/Downtown Parking Overlay District, IL/Industrial Living Overlay District, MR/Mississippi River Critical Overlay, and SH/Shoreland Overlay District,

  • Petition to rezone that portion of land to be part of the apartment lot that is currently zoned I1 and ILOD to R6, removing the IL Industrial Living Overlay District and retaining all other existing overlay districts
  • Petition to rezone that portion of land to be part of the apartment lot that is currently zoned C3A to R6, retaining all existing overlay districts
  • Conditional use permit to allow a 12-space accessory parking lot in the DP/Downtown Parking Overlay District
  • Site plan review
  • Preliminary and final plat
