Stay in the Loop

Funds Being Raised For Downtown SkatePark

By Mike Binkley, North Loop Neighborhood Association

An unused section of land beneath a very long skyway is being targeted by the Midwest Skateboarding Alliance as a future skateboard park they’re calling Downtown Breakroom. The strip of land, which is owned by MnDOT, is along 2nd Avenue North between the city’s B and C parking ramps.

Developer Max Salmen with EFS Real Estate is helping the group raise money by hosting a large skate party outside his agency’s offices near the Farmers Market in the North Loop. The fundraiser, September 8th from noon to 6 pm, will feature a half-pipe along with the Familia Spoon and Cherry ramp at 501 Royalston Avenue in the North Loop.

The project is estimated to cost about one million dollars.
