Gourmet Egg Sandwich Shop Opening Soon In 5th Ave Market

The sandwich counter inside 5th Avenue Market is about to come alive again. But this time, the focus will be on gourmet versions of the egg sandwich, created by Adam Bresina, a former Executive Sous Chef at The Hewing Hotel and later Executive Chef at the Minneapolis Club.

“So many different things go with eggs,” he said. “I think it’s a really fun vehicle for the culinary arts. So I’m taking a lot of my chef experience and bringing it to more of a, well, essentially fast food environment. We have a proprietary style egg soufflé essentially. So it puffs up really nice and there’s a bunch of different toppings that you can add to that.”

The new shop, known as Egg On A Roll, will have a commercial egg cooker and bun toaster behind the counter, so everything is made to order on-site.

“We’ll have five signature sandwiches,” he said, “The Classic, The Tuscany, The Breakfast In Bombay, The Crying Eggie which is partnership with Crybaby Craig’s, and The Forager. And we’ll have a build-your-own option so you can kind of pick and choose what your favorite aspects of those five signature sandwiches are.”

The owner of 5th Avenue Market, Ihab Elashri, said since buying the business two years ago, he had interviewed several others who were interested in bringing food service to his shop, but none of them seemed to be a good fit for the North Loop until he met Adam.

“This is my goal,” he said. “When I do something I want to make sure people in the neighborhood are happy with it and they like it. Because I like the people here. They’re very nice people and I want to do something to give them better service.”

Starting June 17th, Adam is planning to be open Mondays-Saturdays 8am-6pm and 8am-2pm on Sundays.

“Our motto is, ‘a rolling start to your day, no matter what time of day that may be,’” he said.
