Stay in the Loop

Help Decide How Our New Park Will Look

In a reversal of the old song lyrics, “paved Paradise and put up a parking lot,” we’re seeing a section of parking lot removed in the North Loop, to be replaced by green space.

The new park along North 3rd Street will only start out as a simple grass field, but the North Loop Neighborhood Association is putting together a Parks Committee to help shape the vision of how it should look in the future and make recommendations to the Minneapolis Park Board. We’re hoping members of the community will step forward to help out with the planning.

David Crary, NLNA board member and co-chair of the committee, said he’d like to see a small playground installed, as well as trees and benches for people to sit and relax in the park.

“We’ve got to figure out, what would we recommend to the Park Board because we don’t have final say.” Crary said. “But the Park Board’s good about listening to what the neighborhood wants.”

The land, purchased for about $2 million, is only 25,000 square feet, but it will provide some much-needed green space for the North Loop.

If you’d like to volunteer to be on the Parks Committee, write to us at info@northloop.org.
