Man Challenges Himself To Post From 200+ North Loop Locations

If you’re one of the nearly 35,000 people who follow the North Loop on Instagram, you’ve seen a lot of Luke McDonough over the past few months.

From deep stretching at Purposeful Pilates to a soothing facial at Face Foundrie–and even dropping $900 on a dinner for two at Demi–Luke is determined to post an entertaining reel from each spot on the North Loop Neighborhood Guide in 2026.

Oh, and that neighborhood guide is packed with more than 200 stops–53 restaurants, 36 retail and home furnishing shops, 20 beauty and hair facilities, 13 entertainment venues, 11 gyms and fitness centers, nine spots for groceries, liquor or cannabis, nine healthcare or dental clinics, eight cocktail bars, seven coffee shops, six general services stops, five places for pet services, four art galleries, three hotels, three churches and three breweries/taprooms–along with 18 historic plaques and 17 parking facilities. Whew!

“I saw that guide and thought, this seems like a challenge, seems like a fun one,” Luke said. “I haven’t explored the entire neighborhood yet, and I’ve lived here for a decent amount of time. I feel like I need to I need to do that.”

Luke, who’s doing all this on top of his full-time job as a realtor at DRG (and on his own dime), stepped up to help after the North Loop’s annual meeting in January. Minneapolis, at the time, was going through another tough chapter with the immigration enforcement surge.

“We were in the news and there were some negative connotations and I wanted there to be more positivity,” he said. “I felt like, if I can have any contribution to helping, that was my idea. How can I help?”

Since his first North Loop post on February 2nd, he’s been able to recruit a number of friends–and even a few people he just met–to join him as he’s checked off 43 locations in his first three months.

“The more people that get involved kind of gives me more energy to get to all these places and explore the neighborhood more,” he said. “I personally would love for more businesses to reach out with ideas. It would give me motivation if they were like, ‘hey, I have this idea for us to do.'”

Luke, a Twin Cities native, is naturally comfortable on stage. His background includes a few years in LA where he had an acting agent and performed improv at two prominent comedy theaters: Upright Citizens Brigade and The Groundlings.

Since moving back home and landing in the North Loop, he’s been able to use his comedic skills to grow his own social media presence and boost his real estate career. Last September, when it seemed that snow would soon be in the forecast, he challenged himself to host an open house every day until it actually snowed. It ended up being 50 days later–an exhausting experience, but one that pales in comparison to what he’s taking on now with the North Loop guide.

“There’s times where it can become a little overwhelming, it’s like ‘oh man, I’ve got a lot to go,’ he said. “But it’s getting me into places that I have maybe walked by all the time, but never really stepped foot in. Being able to meet all the people that work at these places is fun too, especially if they have recognized me and they’re like, ‘oh, when are you going to do this place?'”
