Stay in the Loop

Monte Carlo Parking Lot Becomes A Fashion Runway

An annual fashion show that usually packs about a thousand guests into Aria had to be moved outside this year–to a North Loop parking lot–because of the pandemic.

Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine didn’t want to cancel its event known as Fashionopolis, so it produced a scaled down version in the Monte Carlo parking lot, with a runway down the center and giant balloons in the shape of grapevines scaling the restaurant wall.

“We wanted to still keep the brand alive and highlight local retailers and the local talent that hasn’t been getting the exposure that it really deserves and should have lately,” said Lauren Himle, events director for the magazine.

Because of Covid restrictions on events that involve entertainment, the capacity for Fashionopolis was 80 guests, and tickets sold out quickly.

Guests had wine and light food options at tables spaced at a safe distance while all the models wore masks.
