New Mural Honors Lynx Star’s Final Season

With her storied career in the WNBA coming to a close at the end of this season, Sylvia Fowles of the Minnesota Lynx is being honored with a new mural on the side of Modist Brewing. Artist Shade Pratt (pictured above) was brought in to paint it.

“It’s exciting to bring something to life that represents her and can honor her in her final season,” said Pratt, who’s a former pro athlete herself. She played pro soccer for five years in the U.S. and Europe.

“Whenever I can combine some form of art and athletics, it brings joy to me,” she said.

Over the weekend, a large sheet of vinyl went up on the side of Modist and Pratt spent the past five days painting on the vinyl (the city wouldn’t allow painting on the brick itself).

Modist co-owner Dan Wellendorf said it was someone else’s idea but they’re thrilled to have it.

“Fallon, the agency right across the street from us, hit us up and said ‘Hey, we have this idea. We want to find a home for this mural.’ And we said ‘our walls are a perfect fit for that.’ So we were just super pumped to get onboard,” Wellendorf said. “I mean all we did was just say ‘yes.’”

The mural, titled Syl’s Final Ride, is expected to stay up through the end of the Lynx season which is in mid-August.
