Stay in the Loop

NOLO’S Kitchen and Bar and The Basement Bar scheduled to open in September

MINNEAPOLIS – April 18, 2017 – Two Minneapolis restaurateurs and one of the region’s top chefs are transforming the historic Gardner Hardware Building at 515 Washington Avenue North in the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis.  NOLO’S Kitchen and Bar along with The Basement Bar are scheduled to open in September 2017.

The team consists of Marty Collins, Brett Johnson and Peter Hoff, each native Minnesotans with extensive industry experience.  Marty owns McCoy’s Public House and several restaurants in Kansas City, Missouri.  Brett and his family have owned and operated The Hilltop Restaurant for the past 40 years.  Pete, the head chef, brings his most recent culinary experience and creativity from California to NOLO’s and The Basement Bar.  His culinary vision and passion for local ingredients will help create the new modern comfort food.

NOLO’s Kitchen & Bar will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week with a focus on comfort food.  The 125 seat space will have a relaxed, casual environment with cozy booths and high top drink rails – this will be your ‘go to’ neighborhood spot for any occasion.

Guests can enjoy happy hour, breakfast specials, weekend brunch, date night, group gatherings and family dinners.  Chef Pete will be highlighting seasonal specials that showcase local ingredients.  The affordably priced, locally-sourced menu will have options for everyone.

The Basement Bar is where guests will go to have FUN, filling a need in the neighborhood for a casual place with great drink specials and quick food.  The indoor food truck concept will consist of 10-15 items priced below $12.  There will be a shuffleboard table, bubble hockey, a Tri-Wheel, and live music.  Multiple TVs will let sports fans support their favorite teams.  Opening at 4 p.m.on weekdays and 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, The Basement Bar is geared towards fun at any hour.

Being a part of the North Loop neighborhood and supporting local charities are important to the ownership team.  Planning for fundraising events and area bike trips are already in the works.
