Stay in the Loop

North Loop’s Proposed Walkway Would Be Colorful

By Mike Binkley, North Loop Neighborhood Association

Unlike many neighborhoods, the North Loop doesn’t have a lot of direct passageways helping residents easily get from one side of the neighborhood to the other. That’s largely because it didn’t start as a neighborhood. It was an industrial center with long stretches of factories and warehouses.

Now, though, community leaders are getting creative with a solution that involves demolishing part of North Loop Fitness to create a green pathway between the east and west sides of the neighborhood. The owner of the fitness center is onboard with the project, which should get underway in 2020.

With fundraising starting soon through Green Minneapolis, one of the driving forces behind the project, Mark Huting of the North Loop Neighborhood Association, details the plans in the video above.
