Plans Being Made To Transform Farmers Market Area

While the North Loop is well-known as an urban entertainment, residential and retail district, there’s a large section of the neighborhood, around the Minneapolis Farmers Market, that gets much less attention.

In the coming years, though, it’s inevitable that we’ll see demolition crews taking down many of the industrial facilities in the area and construction crews putting up new buildings—especially once the light rail’s southwest corridor is completed in 2023.

That’s why there’s been a concerted effort to create a community-led vision for the area that will guide new development in an equitable and inclusive way.

Community planners have adopted the name Root District for the area: a place where art, food and culture will uphold a diverse community.

To give us a better idea of what’s being discussed, Dan Collison, the Executive Director of NūLoop Partners produced this video, outlining the issues and inviting more members of the community to get involved.
