Metro Transit Proposing Route 3 Move to Washington Ave, Will Serve North Loop
(As excerpted from Council Member Steve Fletcher’s “The Heart of Minneapolis” February 8th newsletter)
Metro Transit is partnering with Minneapolis and Saint Paul, as well as Hennepin and Ramsey counties, to improve service on Route 3 later this year. Proposed changes include:
- Shifting the route in downtown Minneapolis from 3rd and 4th streets to Washington Avenue
- Extending Route 3 to serve the North Loop
- Consolidating bus stops for up to quarter-mile spacing and relocating select stops to reduce delays
- Installing new shelters at qualifying bus stops
“Moving this route to Washington Avenue and extending it to the North Loop are HUGE improvements that a lot of us have been requesting for a long time, and that I’ve advocated for all term,” said council member Steve Fletcher. “I’m really glad to see these proposals, and thankful for Metro Transit’s work on this route.”
