Stay in the Loop

Two TV Stations Air North Loop Features

Flipping channels Monday night, viewers had the chance to see two nice features about the North Loop on the 10 o’clock news.

KSTP Channel 5 had a lengthy feature about the Milky Way candy bar being born in a building along Washington Avenue which is now SoHo Lofts. The report featured shots of the history plaque that the North Loop Neighborhood Association placed on the building. For more details about Mars Candy getting its start here, check out the Historic North Loop section of this website.

Meanwhile, KARE 11 aired a report about a cuckoo clock museum that will be opening on 1st Street this summer. They re-aired an interview they had done with the man who collected hundreds of clocks, Jim Fiorentino, before his death in 2017–updating the story with the information that Fiorentino’s dream of turning the building into a free museum is about to come true. We have more photos and details on the work being done to create the museum, which is tentatively set to open in June 2021.
