Work Begins On New Apartment Tower
For those wondering about the crane and other construction equipment being moved onto a surface parking lot on North 3rd Street, it’s in preparation for a new six-story apartment tower.
About a third of the lot has now been fenced off in the section where Viridium Apartments will be built.
According to Schafer Richardson’s website, Viridium will be a U-shaped building with about 139 market rate apartments—a mix of studios, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and penthouse units centered on a common courtyard. There will be two levels of underground parking with about 160 spaces for both residential and commercial use.
Another part of that surface parking lot is slated to become a city park in the coming years. The North Loop Neighborhood Association signed a purchase agreement for six-tenths of an acre at that site to add some much-needed green space to the neighborhood.
