New Park Planned for the North Loop

By Mike Binkley, North Loop Neighborhood Association

Back when this area was filled with warehouses and industrial facilities, there wasn’t a need or demand for green spaces. But with the transformation of the district into a thriving residential and commercial area, it’s been a top priority of the North Loop Neighborhood Association to create some.

Now, we have a purchase agreement to turn a surface parking lot along 3rd Street into a tree-lined park with benches, outdoor work spaces and a large open yard where we could enjoy future performances.

The NLNA hopes to begin work on the park in 2020 but we need to raise about $2.4 million. The group that helped raise funds for Commons Park near US Bank Stadium, Green Minneapolis will be doing the fundraising for the North Loop’s new park.

In the video above, Mark Huting of the North Loop Neighborhood Association outlines some of the features of the planned park.
