Wrecktangle Pizza Wins National Contest For Ultimate Pizzeria
Cities like Chicago and New York are well-known for their pizza, but when ABC’s Good Morning America went in search of America’s Ultimate Pizzeria, they chose a winner from Minneapolis: Wrecktangle Pizza–which you can find at North Loop Galley and two other locations in the city.
The nationally-televised final round of their series, United States of Pizza featured five competitors who had won their local contests in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Minneapolis.
Wrecktangle’s owner, Jeff Rogers, offered up a breakfast pizza featuring pork sausage gravy, seven different kinds of cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon jam and a little fried sage on the top.
One of the celebrity judges, Aarti Sequeira, a chef, TV host and cookbook author, said “This Wrecktangle pizza should not work. This is not the pizza I would order (but) I freaking love it. The gravy and the sausage and all the cheese and then just the texture of the pizza itself, that is delicious.”
Two of the four judges chose Wrecktangle for the grand prize of $10,000. You can watch the competition here.
