Big-Name Cannabis Company Puts Up Banners In North Loop Building
Since recreational marijuana became legal in Minnesota, there’s been a bit of a North Loop “green rush,” with local shops like Sweetleaves, Wildflower and Lagom Naturals opening up here.
Now, those fledgling Twin Cities brands are about to face competition from one of the biggest names in the cannabis industry, Cookies. It is a rapidly-growing global brand, based in San Francisco, founded by the rapper known as Berner along with a Bay-area breeder and cultivator known as Jai. The company already has nearly 80 stores in the U.S. as well as Jamaica, Germany, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
As a New York Times reporter wrote in 2024, “The closest thing to a bat signal for stoners is the blue lettering of the Cookies logo.”

Earlier this month, banners went up in the windows of the SOHO building at 718 North Washington (the same building where the Milky Way candy bar was first produced in 1923). This will be the company’s first store in Minnesota.
Cookies does, indeed, sell infused edible cookies and other treats along with a wide assortment of cannabis, CBD wellness products and merchandise.
According to the Development Tracker Minneapolis site, the new shop is expected to open this spring.
