New Exhibit Opening: 801 Gallery

October 22 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Fall 801 Gallery Opening features artists Camille Hempel, Pete Driessen and Pocket Toscani.

Come to meet the artists and see their new art on Thursday, October 22 from 5 to 8pm; come and enjoy complimentary wine, beverages and chocolate.

Opening night also features music by Rumba Eterna, @RUMBAETERNA-SOCIAL-CLUB.

The show runs through January 10th, 2027 and closes with an Artist Talk from 2-4pm that day.

Here’s more info on each artist:

Camille Hempel is a multi-disciplinary artist with a passion for exploring the form of couches and their role in living rooms and the American psyche. Her early work was painting their portraits to honor them ironically in the living room scheme of decor. Then moving to NYC in the early 90’s, she was drawn to the ever-surfacing plethora of cast-offs, at the curb for trash collection.  With a bleeding heart and an eye toward preserving their unique (while untouchable) charm, she pursued their documentation in that fleeting and liminal space — beyond people and before the landfill.

Pete Driessen is a Minneapolis based multipractice visual artist, sculptor and cultural producer who creates site-specific conceptual paintings, found object installations, interdisciplinary sculpture projects, and public art initiatives that explore the visceral connections of social, spatial and material dynamics. His past and current artwork blend painting, mixed media, sculpture, installation, and public art into an interdisciplinary confluence of ideas: site and space, location and identity, and capitalism and the commons. Created with large float trowels on unstretched canvas, these works continue his long-term exploration in acrylic gel mediums, color theory and nontraditional painting processes reflective of minimalism, gestural abstraction, and color field painting.

Pocket Toscani’s paintings explore the language of bygone decorative arts. Each piece has its own particular response to its own predicament. “My gut senses the energy of the painting, and if I am listening, I pick it up.”
